Animal Yokochou: Doki Doki Shinkyuu Shiken! no Maki came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by MTO and published by Konami. It was one of those many quirky titles that filled out the GBA library, based on a Japanese anime that never made much of a splash overseas. You play as a human kid who gets pulled into the strange world of Animal Village, where the residents are obsessed with giving you bizarre tests.

You control the boy, moving from screen to screen to find animal examiners who each have a unique mini-game challenge. The main objective is to pass enough of these odd tests to progress and see more of the village. Signature mechanics include quick reflex games, like out-staring a rabbit or balancing fruit on your head, and memory or timing based puzzles, such as repeating a sequence of sounds or not sneezing before a cat does. The pacing is relaxed, with no real punishment for failure, letting you retry challenges until you succeed. It feels like stumbling into a silly, low stakes party where the only goal is to play along.
