Arch Rivals came out on the Sega Genesis in 1992, a Midway game that felt right at home in an era of loud, aggressive arcade ports. It wasn't trying to be a simulation; it was the basketball game you played when you wanted to cause a little chaos on the court.
You control one of two players on a two-on-two team, and the main goal is to outscore the other pair. The real draw, though, is the fighting. You can punch an opponent to make them drop the ball, shove them to the ground, or even steal the ball right out of their hands. The game is fast, a little clumsy, and the difficulty comes from the AI's willingness to fight dirty right back. It feels less like a sport and more like a playground brawl that just happens to use a basketball.
