Play Arctic Tale Online
Explore icy landscapes, play as a polar bear cub, arctic fox, or walrus, find food, escape predators, and tackle mini-games in this chill adventure.
Arctic Tale came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2007, published by Zoo Games. It was one of those many licensed titles that filled out the library during the handheld's later years, aimed at a younger audience with its tie-in to the nature documentary. The graphics are actually pretty decent for the hardware, with clean, colorful sprites and some nice snow effects that make the arctic environments feel cold and expansive.
You control three different arctic animals: a polar bear cub, an arctic fox, and a young walrus. Each has their own short story to play through, with objectives like finding your mother, hunting for food, or escaping predators. The gameplay shifts between simple exploration, context-sensitive actions like digging in snow or sniffing for clues, and a handful of minigames that test timing, like catching fish or outmaneuvering orcas. It's not particularly long or difficult, clearly made with kids in mind, but switching between the animals keeps it from getting too repetitive. Moving through the stark, quiet landscapes gives the whole thing a calm, almost lonely feeling.
