Artelius came out in 1987 for the NES, published by Nichibutsu. It was part of that wave of early console games trying to do something a little different, blending genres in ways that weren't always smooth but were certainly ambitious for the time.
You control a lone cyborg navigating a series of maze-like, side-scrolling levels on a hostile asteroid. Your main goal is to destroy the central computer core of each stage to progress. The gameplay involves a lot of methodical exploration, shooting robotic enemies with your arm cannon, and collecting power-ups to enhance your firepower and defense. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with limited continues and enemies that respawn quickly. It feels like a deliberate, sometimes frustrating crawl through a claustrophobic mechanical world.
