Awesome Possum is this weird little Sonic clone from the Genesis days where you play as a hyperactive, sunglasses-wearing possum who won’t shut up about recycling. The levels are full of toxic waste barrels to dodge and litter to collect—like, yeah, we get it, save the planet, but also let me just wall-jump off this soda can real quick.
It’s janky in that classic early ‘90s way—sometimes you’ll bounce off an enemy and immediately faceplant into spikes, and the controls feel a bit slippery. But there’s something charming about how aggressively it tries to be cool while also preaching at you. The music’s got that crunchy Genesis synth sound, and the speed sections are actually kinda fun once you stop tripping over your own tail.
Honestly, it’s not great, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t grin when the possum yells “Tubular!” after beating a boss shaped like a gas-guzzling car.
