Crawl as Baby Bink to dodge hazards and escape bumbling kidnappers while navigating urban stages in this platformer from the early '90s.
Baby's Day Out on the Sega Genesis was a game I picked up back in the day, a tie-in for the movie of the same name. It was developed by Hi Tech Expressions, and it fit right in with that era's wave of licensed platformers, the kind you'd find on a weekend rental shelf. It wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just offering a straightforward, movie-based adventure.
You control Baby Bink, a diaper-clad infant, and your goal is to crawl your way home across a series of urban stages. The main mechanics involve navigating hazards, like avoiding the three bumbling kidnappers or dodging falling objects from construction sites. You can interact with the environment in simple ways, like knocking over paint cans to create slippery obstacles for your pursuers. The pacing is deliberately slow to match a baby's crawl, which can make some sections feel a bit tedious, and the difficulty comes from the sheer number of environmental threats. It feels like a clumsy, silly scramble, perfectly capturing the chaos of the film.
