Play Backgammon Royale Online
1990 Amiga strategy game. Digital backgammon adaptation with AI opponent. Features adjustable game speed and save functionality. Players race to bear off all pieces first.

Backgammon Royale came out for the Amiga in 1990, developed by Oxford Softworks. It was a straightforward digital take on the classic board game, arriving at a time when the Amiga was well known for both arcade action and thoughtful strategy titles. This one clearly fell into the latter category, offering a polished, no frills way to play backgammon on your computer.
You control the movement of your pieces, rolling virtual dice and deciding which of your checkers to move across the board's twenty four points. The main goal is to be the first to bear off all your pieces, navigating around your opponent's blocks and trying to avoid leaving any of your own checkers exposed. Key mechanics include hitting and sending your opponent's lone pieces to the bar, forcing them to re enter the board, and the crucial doubling cube, which allows you to raise the stakes of the game. The pacing is deliberate, giving you time to think through each move against a competent AI opponent. It feels like a calm but focused match against a patient, skilled friend.
