Game Overview

Backgammon on the Game Boy Color is one of those rare handheld ports that just gets the original game. The moment you boot it up, you're greeted with clean, colorful boards and that satisfying clatter of digital dice—no unnecessary fluff, just straight-up backgammon. I wasn't expecting much at first, but there's something weirdly addictive about nudging those pixel checkers across the screen while waiting for the bus.

It plays exactly like the classic game—aggressive moves, risky doubles, that tense moment when your last piece is one roll away from safety. The AI's decent enough to keep you on your toes, though I mostly played pass-and-play with friends. Honestly, it's a miracle this even exists on the GBC, considering how few traditional board games made it to the system. If you've got a soft spot for backgammon or just want something slower-paced between Pokémon sessions, this little cartridge holds up surprisingly well.
