Bassmasters 2000 on N64 is one of those weirdly satisfying fishing sims where half the fun is just tinkering with your setup before you even cast a line. You can tweak everything—your angler’s look, the boat, even the weather—which makes it feel like you’re prepping for an actual trip. I spent way too much time picking lures, only to realize I had no idea what I was doing.
Exhibition mode’s the chill one where you just fish until you hit a weight goal, but Tournament’s where it gets tense. Three days of fishing, rankings based on your haul—mess up and you’re stuck with the default gear. Speed Fishing’s pure chaos: three minutes to catch as much as possible, with time bonuses for bigger fish. And Casting Game? Basically fishing-themed target practice, except the targets move in weird patterns once you get good.
It’s janky in that late-90s way, but there’s something weirdly addictive about it once you get the hang of the mechanics.
