Battle Dodge Ball for the Game Boy came out in 1991, published by Banpresto. It was part of that early wave of portable sports games, a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate team-based action onto a small monochrome screen. This one stood out for taking a schoolyard game and turning it into something surprisingly tactical and intense.
You control a team of players on a single screen court, moving your character to either catch incoming balls or throw them at opponents. The main goal is to eliminate every member of the other team by hitting them, but the real fun comes from the special moves. Certain characters can perform curved throws or powerful spikes that are much harder to avoid. Matches are fast and demand quick reflexes; one mistimed dodge can cost you a player. It feels chaotic and satisfying when you pull off a perfect throw to clinch the round.
