Battle Soccer 2 is this weird, chaotic SNES game where giant robots, tokusatsu heroes, and other Japanese icons somehow end up playing soccer—if "soccer" means shoulder-checking opponents into the stratosphere before stealing the ball. Your team’s got Gundams, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and a few other surprise faces, all with their own ridiculous super shots that turn the field into a warzone. The first time I saw a Zaku II rocket-tackle a goalie mid-dribble, I knew this wasn’t FIFA.
Matches are fast, messy, and borderline unfair in the best way—like when someone fires a beam cannon from halfway across the pitch and the ball just explodes into the net. The sprites are chunky and full of personality, especially when characters celebrate by posing dramatically after scoring. It’s definitely more of a party game than a sports sim, but that’s why it’s still fun to boot up with friends decades later. Just don’t expect subtlety.
