Play BattleCity (Japan) Online
Your tiny tank scrambles to defend the base as enemy fire closes in—dodging bullets feels impossible until you get into that old-school zone. Those pixel tanks play dirty, flanking you when you least expect it.

BattleCity for the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed and published by Namco. It was one of those straightforward action games that felt right at home on the handheld, offering quick sessions between bus rides or before class. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just gave you a tank and a job to do.
You control a small, green tank tasked with protecting your base from waves of enemy vehicles. Each stage is a single screen filled with destructible bricks, steel walls, and enemy tanks that spawn from the top. Your main goal is to clear all enemies without letting them destroy your eagle emblem at the bottom. Key mechanics include shooting enemy tanks, breaking walls to create paths or traps, and occasionally grabbing power-ups that upgrade your firepower or speed. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as enemy tanks become more aggressive and numerous. It feels tense and satisfying when you finally clear a tricky stage after a few attempts.
