Play BattleCity Online
You control a little tank through maze-like battlefields, blasting enemy tanks and reshaping the terrain by shooting through destructible blocks—power-ups turn the tide in seconds. Two-player mode is pure chaos, alternating between teamwork and friendly fire.

Game Overview
BattleCity on the Game Boy is one of those games that just sticks with you. You start off with this tiny tank, weaving through these blocky mazes, trying to protect your base while taking out enemy tanks—and somehow, it never gets old. The controls are simple but tight, and there's something weirdly satisfying about blasting through bricks to make new paths or cornering an enemy tank for the perfect shot.
What I love is how the game keeps throwing little surprises at you. Grab a power-up, and suddenly your shots tear through everything, or your base gets this temporary armor that makes you feel invincible (until it wears off). The two-player mode is chaotic in the best way—half the time you're working together, the other half you're accidentally shooting each other because the screen's so cramped. And those later levels? The enemy tanks get sneaky, hiding behind indestructible blocks or swarming you all at once.
It's got that perfect mix of strategy and reflexes—you can't just rush in, but if you overthink it, you're toast. Even now, the pixel art and that chunky explosion sound when you take out a tank just hit right. If you missed this one back in the day, it's worth dusting off the Game Boy for.
