Game Overview

Black Hornet is one of those classic Amiga shooters where you’re basically a ghost in the sky—this sleek, silent fighter that darts through enemy territory blowing stuff up before they even hear you coming. The world’s in trouble (again), and you’re the only pilot crazy enough to take on waves of enemies, ground installations, and even random buildings just begging to be turned into rubble.

It’s a top-down scroller, so you’re weaving through deserts, dodging over mountains, and occasionally popping into space—all while keeping an eye on your fuel gauge, because running out mid-mission is as embarrassing as it sounds. The controls are simple: joystick to move, fire button to shoot, spacebar to swap between weapons. But the real trick is landing on airfields or carriers to resupply. Time it wrong, and you’ll get shot to pieces while trying to refuel.

What I love is how chaotic it gets—enemies come at you from everywhere, and you’re constantly juggling ammo types, fuel levels, and whether that last explosion was yours or theirs. The HUD keeps it all in check, showing your damage, score, and current weapon. Just don’t get too comfortable—this game doesn’t pull punches.
