Blaster Master 2 picks up right where the first game left off—except, well, Jason’s tank Sophia got wrecked by one of Plutonium Boss’ leftover goons. So now he’s back with a rebuilt Sophia, ready to blast through mutants all over again.
Most of the time, you’re rolling around in the tank, jumping gaps and frying enemies with its dual weapons. But sometimes you’ve gotta hop out as Jason to squeeze through tight spots or climb ladders—which always feels risky since he’s way squishier without armor. The levels mix up shooting sections with some light exploration, and the bosses are these ridiculous screen-filling mutants that take way too many hits to put down.
It’s not as tight as the NES original, but if you’re into chunky Genesis action with a weird sci-fi story, it’s a solid ride.
