Game Overview

Blazing Skies came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Epic and Sony Records. It was part of that wave of mid-90s SNES games that tried to push the hardware with fast action and detailed visuals. You don't hear about it as often as some other shooters from the time, but it had its own style.

You pilot a fighter plane through a series of side-scrolling and overhead stages, shooting down enemy aircraft and ground targets. The main goal is to survive each mission, rack up points, and eventually take down large bosses. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to switch between two different weapon sets on the fly, and a charge shot that builds up as you avoid fire. The pacing is relentless, with enemy waves and environmental hazards coming at you constantly. It feels tense and demanding, especially when you're weaving through tight patterns of bullets to keep your multiplier alive.
