Play Blockout (World) Online
Rotate the 3D well to fit falling blocks, clear layers, and tackle spatial puzzles as the game gets deeper and more challenging.
Blockout (World) came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by California Dreams. It was part of that wave of puzzle games trying to push beyond the flat, two dimensional grids that Tetris made famous. The game didn't get a ton of attention, but it had a clear, almost stubborn idea: what if the blocks fell into a pit, and you could rotate your view of the whole thing.
You control the perspective of a 3D well, rotating it to fit falling polyomino pieces into place. The main goal is to clear horizontal layers by filling them completely, just like in Tetris, but the depth adds a serious mental twist. Signature mechanics include spinning the entire playfield along two axes to see gaps from different angles, and dealing with pieces that can be difficult to orient when you're not looking straight down. The pacing is methodical but the difficulty ramps up quickly as the pit gets deeper and your spatial reasoning is put to the test. It feels like solving a structural engineering problem while someone keeps throwing bricks at you.
