Play Blockout Online
Rotate and stack falling 3D blocks to clear layers in this puzzle game for the Sega Genesis.
Blockout came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by California Dreams. It was part of that wave of puzzle games that really tried to push the hardware, offering a 3D perspective that felt fresh at the time, even if the graphics were pretty basic by today's standards.
You control the orientation of falling 3D blocks, rotating them along multiple axes to fit into a pit. The goal is to complete solid horizontal layers, which then vanish and give you more room to work. The challenge comes from the increasingly complex polyomino shapes and the pressure of the pit slowly filling up. It's a methodical, spatial reasoning test that feels deeply satisfying when you clear several layers at once.
