Bonk's Adventure came out on the Game Boy in 1992, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of console characters trying to make the jump to handhelds, and it managed to hold its own among the platformers of the time. The game didn't reinvent anything, but it was a solid, colorful addition to the library.

You control Bonk, a small, strong caveman with an oversized head, and you use that head to bonk enemies, break blocks, and smash through obstacles. The goal is to rescue the kidnapped Princess Za from the evil King Drool, level by level. You explore screen by screen, collecting smiley flowers and meat to restore health, and occasionally finding power-ups that let you smash through tougher enemies. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels fair, with a good mix of platforming and combat. It feels satisfying to bounce around and clear a path with a well-timed headbutt.
