Bonk's Adventure came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of mascot platformers that followed in the wake of Super Mario Bros., offering a different kind of hero and a slightly weirder world to explore.

You control Bonk, a small, strong caveman with an oversized head. Your goal is to rescue the kidnapped princess by fighting through prehistoric levels filled with dinosaurs and other odd creatures. Your primary attack is a headbutt, which you can use while jumping to smash enemies from below or charge on the ground. You can also perform a spinning dive from great heights to clear out groups, and eating certain pieces of meat temporarily makes you invincible. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty is fair but requires some memorization of enemy patterns. It feels satisfying to bounce on platforms and chain together headbutts to clear a path.
