Play Boy and His Blob, A - Trouble on Blobolonia Online
You toss jellybeans to your blob buddy—each flavor morphs him into something new, like a ladder or trampoline—while figuring out how to navigate these strange pastel caves together. The controls feel stiff at first, but there’s a weird charm in watching him wiggle happily when you pet him.

Game Overview
A Boy and His Blob is one of those weirdly wholesome NES games that sticks with you. You’ve got this kid and his gelatinous alien pal, and together they’re trying to save Blobolonia by—wait for it—feeding the blob different jellybeans to make him transform. Vinegar turns him into a ladder, licorice turns him into a trampoline... it’s ridiculous in the best way.
The first time I played, I wasted half my jellybeans just experimenting—turns out you really need that ladder bean early on. The controls take some getting used to (throwing beans feels weirdly stiff at first), but there’s something oddly satisfying about figuring out which transformation solves each screen’s little puzzle. Also, the blob’s little happy bounce when you pet him? 10/10.
It’s janky, it’s obscure, and I still don’t know why the evil emperor looks like a rejected Skeletor design. But that’s part of the charm.
