Game Overview

BS Zelda Map One: Goriya Version came out in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Nintendo as part of their Satellaview broadcast service in Japan. It was a curious piece of the SNES library, a reimagined take on the original Zelda overworld that felt both familiar and distinctly experimental for its time.

You control a Goriya, one of the common enemy types from the series, armed with a boomerang instead of a sword. Your goal is to navigate the overworld screen by screen, hunting for keys to unlock dungeons while avoiding or confronting other monsters. The mechanics flip the usual script; you use boomerangs to stun foes and collect rupees, bomb walls to find secrets, and experience the world from the enemy's perspective. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty comes from learning this inverted role in a landscape you might think you know. It feels strange and clever to play a monster in a hero's world.
