Play Pocket Monsters : Blue Version Online
You pick a starter, grind through endless Rattatas, and trade with friends to complete your Pokédex—that first Elite Four win still hits like nothing else.

I first played Pocket Monsters: Blue Version on the Game Boy back in 1996, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. It was one of those games that felt perfectly suited to the handheld, with its simple graphics and the ability to trade monsters using a link cable. At the time, it stood out among other RPGs for its portability and the social aspect it encouraged, even if the world was rendered in basic black and green.
You control a young trainer who sets out to capture and train creatures called Pokémon, battling other trainers and wild monsters to grow stronger. The main goal is to defeat the eight Gym Leaders, then challenge the Elite Four to become the regional champion. Signature mechanics include exploring the world screen by screen, engaging in turn-based battles where type advantages matter, and trying to collect all 150 monsters by trading with other players. The pacing can feel slow due to random encounters and the need to grind levels, but the strategy in building a balanced team keeps it engaging. It feels like building a collection of partners, each with their own strengths and quirks, and that sense of companionship is what makes it memorable.
