Game Overview

Monster House on the GBA is way creepier than you'd expect from a cartoony horror game. You play as three kids—DJ, Jenny, and Chowder—who realize their neighbor’s house is literally alive and hungry. The whole place groans and shifts like some giant wooden beast, and you’ve gotta sneak through its guts (basement, attic, even the furnace) before it eats the whole neighborhood.

Each kid handles differently—Jenny slips through vents, DJ climbs like a pro, Chowder’s your muscle—and you’ll swap between them constantly to solve puzzles. The water guns feel oddly satisfying to use, blasting creepy furniture monsters until they collapse into piles of soggy wood. And yeah, you’ll smash a lot of vases. Like, a suspicious number of vases. Who fills every room with breakable pottery?

Weirdest detail? There’s a full arcade game hidden inside one room—some brutal medieval side-scroller called "Thou Art Dead." Feels like the developers just wanted an excuse to cram in extra content. The house fights dirty too, shifting rooms when you’re not looking. Bathrooms become safe zones though, since the house hates water (smart kids).

It’s janky in that classic GBA way, but the atmosphere nails that "kids vs. evil house" vibe from the movie. Just watch out for the chandeliers—they bite.
