Hunting giant beasts on your PSP feels huge—dodging Tigrex charges, teaming up to trap monsters, and grinding for that perfect armor set while your hands go numb.
Game Overview
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G came out in 2008 for the PlayStation Portable, developed and published by Capcom. It was one of the bigger titles on the PSP at the time, especially in Japan, where it built a dedicated local multiplayer scene. The game expanded on its predecessor with more monsters, gear, and a higher difficulty tier, giving players plenty to sink their teeth into.
You control a hunter tasked with taking down massive creatures across varied environments. The core loop involves preparing for hunts by gathering resources, crafting gear, and then heading out to track and fight monsters. Signature mechanics include weapon-based combat with deep move sets (like greatsword charges or dual blade combos), using items to trap or tranquilize monsters for capture, and the ability to bring along AI-controlled Felyne companions. The pacing is deliberate, often demanding patience and observation; mistakes are punished quickly. It feels satisfying to learn a monster’s patterns and finally topple something that wiped you out just an hour before.
