Game Overview
Monster Bash II is one of those weirdly charming MS-DOS platformers where you play as Johnny, a kid armed with a slingshot, trying to rescue pets from cages in horror-themed levels. At first it feels like a simple "jump and shoot" deal, but then you start noticing the little things—like how some furniture springs to life when you touch it, or how you can drop ladders to reach higher platforms. The third episode even throws in a broomstick power-up that turns the whole thing into a frantic arcade shooter for a bit.
What I love is how the game actually listens to player feedback—the original shareware version had this brutal difficulty spike that got smoothed out in the full release. And the F10 hint system? Lifesaver. Boss fights are goofy but satisfying, especially when you figure out their patterns after a few messy attempts. It’s not perfect, but there’s something about the mix of Halloween aesthetics and surprisingly thoughtful mechanics that sticks with you. Definitely a cult favorite for a reason.
