Game Overview

Bubba'n'Stix was a Sega Genesis game developed by Core Design and published by Electronic Arts, though this particular beta version from Europe never saw a full commercial release. It arrived during a time when platformers were plentiful, but few leaned so heavily into environmental interaction and puzzle solving as this one did.

You control Bubba, a laid-back character accompanied by his sentient wooden stick, Stix. The goal is to navigate through a series of vibrant, obstacle-filled levels, each demanding both combat and clever use of your partner. Stix can be thrown to attack enemies or to interact with objects from a distance; he can also be used to stack logs into bridges or to trigger switches just out of Bubba's reach. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring you to stop and assess how to use Stix to progress, and the difficulty comes more from thoughtful puzzles than relentless enemies. It feels like a cooperative effort even though you're playing solo, making each solved section quietly satisfying.
