Bubble and Squeak came out on the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Sunsoft. It was one of those platformers that felt a little different from the usual mascot fare, with a mix of action and puzzle elements that stood out even among the system's varied library.
You control a boy named Bubble, who teams up with a small alien called Squeak. Your goal is to rescue Bubble's family by navigating through themed worlds, defeating enemies, and solving environmental puzzles. A lot of the gameplay involves switching between characters; Bubble can jump and shoot, while Squeak can be carried or used as a springboard to reach higher areas. You collect coins to use in gumball machines, which grant temporary power-ups like bubble-spewing abilities, and occasionally the game shifts into underwater shooter segments. The pacing is brisk, with some tricky platforming and enemy patterns that keep you alert. It feels inventive and a little chaotic in a way that makes each stage unpredictable.
