Game Overview
Centurion: Defender of Rome is one of those games that makes you feel like you're actually running an empire—if running an empire involved a lot of chariot races and yelling at legions to stop running away. You start with just Rome and a single, slightly underwhelming legion, and from there it's up to you to either sweet-talk or smash your way across the ancient world.
The best part? It’s not just about war. You’ll spend half your time playing politics—setting taxes (too high and the people revolt, too low and you can’t afford new legions) and throwing games in the Colosseum to keep everyone happy. The chariot races are janky but weirdly addictive, and there’s something deeply satisfying about watching your gladiator win a fight you barely controlled.
But when diplomacy fails (and it usually does), you march your legions into battle. The combat’s simple—position your troops, hope they listen, and watch as they either crush the enemy or panic and flee in hilarious disarray. Naval battles are a weird little minigame where you ram ships while secretly knowing the real fight was decided by how many ships you brought in the first place.
It’s got that classic Amiga charm—rough around the edges, but full of personality. Just don’t get too attached to your legions. They tend to die a lot.
