Cheese Cat-Astrophe is one of those weird, hyperactive Genesis games that somehow makes a cat stealing cheese feel like an Olympic sport. You’re this orange tabby with a serious cheese addiction, leaping across floating platforms, dodging rolling cheese wheels (because apparently cheese fights back?), and getting chased by dogs who clearly don’t appreciate your life choices.
The controls are snappy—like, almost too fast at first—but once you get the hang of bouncing off springs and wall-jumping past spike traps, it clicks. The levels get ridiculous fast, throwing in conveyor belts, disappearing blocks, and at one point, an entire section where you’re dodging falling wedges of gouda. It’s got that same chaotic energy as early Sonic games, but with way more dairy.
Honestly, half the fun is just seeing what absurd hazard they’ll throw at you next. Found my old cartridge last year and it still holds up, even if my reflexes don’t. If you like platformers that don’t take themselves seriously, this one’s a blast.
