Game Overview

College Slam came out for the Sega Genesis in 1996, developed by Iguana Entertainment. It was one of the many arcade-style basketball games on the system, but it stood out by focusing on college teams and over-the-top action instead of simulation. You could pick from a bunch of real NCAA teams, which was a nice touch if you followed college ball at the time.

You control a team of five players, switching between them to pass, steal, and shoot. The main goal is to outscore the other team, but the real fun comes from the exaggerated moves. You can perform turbo-powered dunks that shake the rim, or pull off flashy steals that send the ball flying. The game moves fast, with a focus on constant action rather than strict realism. It feels chaotic and energetic, like a playground game turned up to eleven.
