Play Columns Crown Online
Match colored gems, clear them before they stack up, and outsmart a rival in this classic puzzle challenge on Game Boy Advance.
I picked up Columns Crown for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a Sega release that came along when the handheld was absolutely packed with puzzle games. It wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just offering a solid, portable version of their classic gem-matching formula. It felt right at home among the other quick-play titles you'd grab for a short bus ride or between classes, a familiar name in a sea of options.
You control the order of colored gems as they drop from the top of the screen, rotating sets of three to align them horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The main objective is to create matches and clear gems to prevent the stack from reaching the top, all while a rival thief at the bottom of the screen tries to steal your cleared pieces to build their own tower. The game's signature mechanics include a special Crown gem that can clear entire rows and a versus mode where sending garbage blocks to your opponent becomes a tense back-and-forth struggle. The pacing starts deceptively simple but the difficulty ramps up steadily, demanding faster decisions and smarter placements. It feels like a constant, quiet battle of wits against both the game and the clever AI opponent.
