So Cowboy Kid starts with this classic NES revenge story — some gang called the Scorpions took over Villatown, the sheriff disappeared investigating them, and now his son Sam (that's you) is out for justice. Almost gets killed too, until this badass Native warrior named Little Chief saves him. Next thing you know, you're the new sheriff with Little Chief as your deputy. Feels very 80s action movie, in the best way.

Gameplay's this weird mix of side-scrolling action and light RPG stuff. You're running through towns smashing chests for gold while dodging (or shooting) gang members. At first you don't even have a gun — gotta find a knife to break stuff, earn cash for a key, all before you can even get into the sheriff's office. Once you're official, it opens up: hunt bounties in different towns, play this tense shooting gallery minigame where hitting civilians loses points... It's janky in that old NES way, but there's something charming about how it throws all these ideas together.
