I picked up Crash Bandicoot Fusion for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was one of those crossover games that felt like a novelty at the time, bringing together two very different platforming mascots on a handheld that was packed with inventive titles. The premise was simple but appealing: Crash and Spyro sharing the spotlight in a single adventure.
You control either Crash or Spyro, switching between them on the fly to use their unique abilities. Crash spins through crates and enemies, while Spyro breathes fire and charges. The goal is to stop Cortex and Ripto, who have joined forces, by navigating side scrolling and isometric levels, collecting gems, and defeating bosses. The pace is brisk, and some sections demand quick reflexes, especially during the boss fights which mix platforming and combat. It feels chaotic but satisfying when you pull off a smooth character switch to overcome an obstacle.
