I picked up Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex on Game Boy Advance back in 2001, a portable version of the console game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Universal Interactive. It was part of that wave of early GBA titles trying to bring home console experiences into your hands, with colorful graphics and familiar characters scaled down for the small screen.
You control Crash through a series of linear, side-scrolling and isometric levels, spinning to defeat enemies, breaking crates for fruit and extra lives, and avoiding hazards like pits and TNT. The main goal is to stop the evil masks and Dr. Cortex by completing each stage, often chasing after Crystal collectibles while navigating moving platforms and timed obstacles. The pacing is brisk, and some sections demand precise jumps, making it tougher than it first appears. It feels like a condensed, sometimes frantic version of the classic Crash formula, keeping you alert with each leap and spin.
