Game Overview

I picked up Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex for the GameCube back in 2001, developed by Traveller's Tales. It was one of those early 3D platformers that tried to carry the spirit of the original PlayStation games into a new generation. The console was still finding its footing, and this was a familiar face in a new home, even if it didn't always feel perfectly at ease there.

You control Crash, running, jumping, and spinning your way through a series of linear levels. The main goal is to stop Dr. Cortex and his new band of elemental masks from causing global havoc. The gameplay mixes traditional platforming with vehicle sections; you'll find yourself crammed inside a rolling ball navigating narrow paths or piloting a biplane in shooter-style stages. The pacing is uneven, with some frustrating difficulty spikes, especially in later levels. It feels like a slightly awkward but earnest attempt to keep the series' chaotic energy alive.
