Mario Kart: Double Dash cranks up the chaos by stuffing two characters into every kart—which sounds ridiculous until you realize how well it works. One of you drives while the other hurls shells, bananas, or whatever else you grab from the item boxes. Swapping roles mid-race feels surprisingly tactical, especially when you’re dodging a blue shell and your partner’s desperately trying to shield you.
The new character-specific items are wild—Bowser’s giant spiked shell plows through everything, while Baby Mario and Luigi get a Chain Chomp that drags them forward like an overexcited dog. The tracks are classic Mario Kart: rainbow roads, haunted mansions, and that one beach course where someone always falls off the pier. And yeah, the LAN mode is a nightmare to set up (eight GameCubes? Really?), but when it works, it’s absolute madness with a room full of shouting friends.
It’s still Mario Kart at heart—equal parts skill and pure, unhinged luck.
