Game Overview
New Super Mario Bros. on the DS feels like coming home—if home had giant mushrooms, turtle shells you can ride, and a perpetually kidnapped princess. It's the first proper 2D Mario in ages, but with these slick little 3D models that somehow make jumping on goombas even more satisfying. The touchscreen lets you stash an extra power-up (handy when you're about to face a boss and really don’t want to lose that fire flower).
Bowser’s at it again, this time with his bratty kid in tow, so you’re bouncing through eight worlds—deserts, ice caves, those annoying ghost houses—with that classic mix of tight jumps and hidden shortcuts. Some levels have these sneaky alternate exits that unlock secret paths, and the new mega mushroom turns Mario into a screen-filling wrecking ball for about 10 glorious seconds. It’s got that perfect balance of being easy to pick up but still hiding tricks for anyone willing to poke around.
Also, Luigi’s in it. That’s always a plus.
