Game Overview
New Super Mario Bros. on the DS is basically the perfect throwback—it feels like the old-school Mario games but with just enough polish to make it fresh. You’re running, jumping, and stomping on Goombas like always, but now there’s this slick little wall-jump move that changes how you tackle some levels. The power-ups are great too—the Mega Mushroom turns you into a screen-filling wrecking ball, and the Mini Mushroom? Weirdly fun, even if you keep falling into gaps because Mario’s suddenly tiny.
The levels are short enough for quick play sessions, but some of the later ones get seriously tricky. I got stuck on that one airship stage for way too long before realizing I could just skip it and come back later. And yeah, the graphics are simple, but they’ve got that bright, bouncy Mario charm—everything pops on the DS screen.
If you’ve got a soft spot for 2D platformers, this one’s a no-brainer. It’s Mario doing what Mario does best.
