Game Overview

CyberBall (World) was released for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in 1990, developed by Atari Games and published by Electronic Arts. It arrived during a period when sports games were beginning to experiment with more fantastical and futuristic settings, moving beyond traditional simulations.

You control a team of robotic players on a grid based field, passing a volatile ball that will explode if you hold it too long. The main objective is to advance the ball into the opposing end zone while managing the ever decreasing timer on each possession. Key mechanics include timed passes to avoid detonation, strategic lateral or forward throws to outmaneuver defenders, and attempting to intercept the ball when on defense. The pacing is relentless, demanding quick decisions under pressure as the fuse ticks down. It feels like a tense game of hot potato where every catch could be your last.
