Dark Castle on the Genesis is one of those games that looks simple at first—you're just a prince trying to escape a fortress full of traps and guards—but man, it gets tricky fast. The Black Knight’s goons are everywhere, and the floors are basically booby-trap playgrounds. One wrong jump and you’re toast.
What I like is how weighty the movement feels—Duncan doesn’t just float around, so you really have to time your jumps. The castle’s got this gloomy, shadowy vibe that makes it feel like you’re sneaking through some cursed dungeon. And yeah, the henchmen are annoying, but there’s something satisfying about finally nailing a perfect run past them.
It’s not the smoothest Genesis port, but if you’re into old-school platformers that punish mistakes, this one’s got a weird charm. Just don’t throw your controller when the bats knock you into a pit for the tenth time.
