Play Datsugoku (Japan) Online
You bust out of a prison camp throwing punches, dodging bullets, and grabbing pipes to smash waves of guards—simple, brutal, and satisfying. That helicopter boss still makes me sweat.

Datsugoku—or P.O.W. as it was known outside Japan—is one of those NES beat-em-ups that feels tougher than it looks. You play as a buff prisoner breaking out of a military camp, punching and kicking your way through waves of guards. The arcade version had smoother controls, but the NES port still nails that satisfying crunch when you land a solid uppercut.
It’s got that classic 80s action movie vibe—no fancy combos, just straightforward brawling with the occasional knife or pipe pickup. The first level throws you right into it: you’re dodging bullets, climbing fences, and taking down guys in berets. By the time you reach the helicopter boss, you’ll either be hooked or ready to throw your controller.
Not the deepest fighter, but there’s something weirdly addictive about its simplicity.
