Daze Before Christmas is one of those weird little holiday platformers that somehow slipped under the radar back in the Genesis days. You play as this grumpy Santa who’s lost his presents (and his temper), jumping across candy cane platforms and beating up snowmen with his sack. The whole thing has this bizarre edge to it—like someone took a Christmas special and ran it through a 90s action game filter.
The controls are a bit stiff, but there’s something charming about the way Santa just hurls presents at enemies like he’s fed up with the whole holiday. Some levels have you sliding down icy slopes, others toss in weird gimmicks like toy trains you ride. It’s janky in places, but if you’re into obscure retro holiday games, this one’s got personality for days.
