Game Overview

Desert Demolition came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Sega and published under their own label. It was one of those many platformers that filled the shelves back then, but it stood out because it was based on the Looney Tunes cartoons, specifically the endless chase between Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. The graphics and sound did a good job of capturing the look and feel of the source material, which was a big part of its appeal at the time.

You can choose to play as either Wile E. Coyote or the Road Runner, each with their own style of movement and objectives. As the coyote, you hunt the bird by setting traps and using ACME gadgets like rockets and springs, while as Road Runner, you simply try to reach the end of each stage while avoiding obstacles. The game is structured across side scrolling levels where you jump between platforms, dodge falling anvils and TNT explosions, and collect items like stopwatches or bird seed for points. The pace is generally fast, especially with Road Runner, but the coyote's stages feel more deliberate and puzzle like. It can be pretty tough in spots, with some cheap hits and tricky jumps, but the cartoony chaos keeps it fun even when you fail. Playing it feels like you're directing your own short, interactive cartoon where every mistake ends in a comical disaster.
