Destiny of an Emperor came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Capcom. You control Liu Bei, leading a small band of heroes with the goal of uniting China and restoring the Han dynasty. The core of the game involves traveling across a large world map, visiting towns to gather information and supplies, and engaging in turn based battles. Your party's strength is represented by troop counts instead of individual hit points, and a major part of the strategy is using tactics and persuasion to get enemy generals to defect and join your cause. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with a difficulty that spikes noticeably if you wander into the wrong area unprepared. It feels like managing a persistent military campaign where every new ally genuinely matters.
