Dual Orb came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by I'Max. It was one of many JRPGs on the system, arriving in an era when developers were still figuring out how to translate the feel of PC and console classics into something that worked on a controller. You control a young hero named Elven and his companions, traveling across a world map and delving into towns and dungeons screen by screen. The main goal is to gather the scattered pieces of the Dual Orb to prevent a great evil from returning. Two mechanics define the experience: a magic system where you combine different elemental orbs to create new, more powerful spells, and a party dynamic where members can actually betray you, forcing unexpected battles. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that feels fair but demands attention to your resources.
