Dudes With Attitude came out for the NES in 1990 from American Video Entertainment, a company known for some of the quirkier unlicensed titles on the system. It was part of that wave of games that tried to stand out with attitude and style, even if the execution was often rough around the edges.
You control one of four streetwise fighters, moving screen by screen to punch and kick through endless waves of enemy thugs. The main goal is to clear each area of foes, who burst into coins when defeated; you collect these to earn extra lives and continues. Between fights, your character does a little victory strut, and the controls have a certain unrefined heaviness that makes every punch feel a bit unpredictable. The difficulty spikes quickly, with enemy patterns that can feel cheap rather than challenging. Playing it is like wrestling with a game that's almost proud of how messy it is.
