Game Overview

Ecco Jr. came out on the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Novotrade and published by Sega. It was a spin-off from the main Ecco the Dolphin series, aimed at a younger audience during a time when the Genesis was still home to a wide variety of experimental and family-friendly titles.

You control a young dolphin, swimming through interconnected ocean screens to find and help other marine animals. The main objective is to complete simple tasks, like reuniting a baby whale with its mother or guiding sea turtles to safety. Signature mechanics include using your sonar to communicate with fish and other creatures, who then give you hints or open new paths, and a gentle, pressure-free exploration where you just swim and occasionally nudge objects. The pacing is deliberately slow, with no enemies or time limits, making it a very low-stress experience. It feels like a peaceful, interactive aquarium visit where your only job is to be curious.
