Ecco Jr. came out in 1995 for the Sega Genesis, developed by Novotrade International. It was a spin-off of the main Ecco the Dolphin series, aimed at a younger audience during a time when platformers and action games dominated the console. You control a young dolphin, swimming through a series of connected ocean environments. The main goal is to complete simple tasks, like finding hidden shells or guiding groups of friendly creatures to specific locations. You use sonar pings to reveal interactive objects and communicate with other sea life, and you often nudge or herd animals to solve environmental puzzles. The pacing is deliberately slow, the threats are minimal, and failure carries little consequence, making it a relaxed, almost meditative experience.
