Elemix! was a Game Boy Advance puzzle game released in 2000, developed by a small studio whose name escapes me now. It came out during that early GBA period when puzzle games were still figuring out how to use the hardware, and this one had a pretty distinct hook with its elemental theme. It didn't get a ton of attention, but it had a quiet charm if you were into that sort of thing.
You control a cursor to swap adjacent tiles on a grid, each representing an element like fire, water, or earth. The main goal is to create matches of three or more, but the twist is that certain elements react when combined; for example, matching water and fire tiles in proximity creates steam, which clears a larger area. You have to manage these chain reactions carefully because if the board fills up, it's game over. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up steadily, demanding quick decisions to avoid cascading failures. It feels satisfying when you set off a long, planned sequence and watch the board clean itself up.
